Sizing landing nets for the size of the fish is a secondary consideration. Any net shape and practically any size will help you contain a totally exhausted (and likely to be dead) fish. Landing nets should be first and foremost a catching tool (regardless of fish size) to aid in landing the fish and secondly a handling tool. For example, consider the common “catch and release” design. It is good for handling the fish after it is in the net, but it is really a very inefficient design to land green fish. The landing net can do more.
